Raz Mason’s thoughtfulness, integrity, and compassion arise
from a life lived facing challenges and being of service
Raz (“Roz”) Mason has filed for the Democratic primary for Oregon Senate District 26. The race is for an open seat as incumbent Senator Chuck Thomsen is retiring. “I can provide the leadership and representation needed for District 26 residents. We face great challenges in housing, our economy, and from the impacts on climate change, which is contributing to droughts and wildfires that worsen our housing and economic problems.”
Mason is a climate change educator; teacher with extensive STEM and career/technical education experience; a hospital chaplain who has worked especially with veterans and others under stress; and a climate change educator with a focus on community adaptation to extreme weather. She also has connections to rural Oregon. She lived in Hermiston as a child, competing in 4-H at the Umatilla County Fair.
Senate District 26 was modified in the recent redistricting and now includes the northwestern corner of Wasco County, including The Dalles and Mosier, and stretches across the mountains to Canby and Sandy. No other Democrat has filed for the primary so far; two Republicans have filed. Mason has been endorsed by current Oregon House District 52 Representative Anna Williams, current city council member Darcy Long-Curtis, along with other respected residents in The Dalles and beyond.
Lifelong The Dalles resident and small business owner Mike Ballinger has endorsed Raz “because she embodies the values and perspective that we need in our public servants. She understands and promotes the truth that the wellbeing of every individual is dependent on the health of the whole community and its institutions (legal, economic, educational, and civic).”
