Campaign Funding

Transparency in campaign funding is important.

Campaigns do cost money. At Team 26 we spend your donations on printing, postage, digital marketing, paid campaign manager (there is far too much for any candidate in a statewide race to do alone, even with strong volunteers, as we are fortunate to have), and travel expenses (ours is a large four-county Senate District). Without community support we cannot get the word out about how well I can represent the people of Senate District 26.

Most of my funds have come from individual small donors – over 200 – a handful of larger contributions from individuals, and a handful of donations of $250-$2,500 from political PACs of other candidates/electeds, unions or progressive/Democratic causes. As of this writing, we are slated to break the $50,000 ceiling when we receive several promised PAC donations.

My opponent has raised over $335K to date, mostly from corporate and MAGA-leaning Republican PACs. An examination of his campaign transactions shows many corporate PACs, several individual large donors, and very few small individual donors.

Who do you think will better represent the interests of regular people in this district?

Wise climate action is one of my top priorities, as is protecting government integrity and the rule of law. My opponent has received $43,000 from Koch Industries through direct, indirect, and in-kind donations (as of Sept. 20, 2022). Over the years, Koch Industries has spent over $150 million supporting 90+ climate denying organizations and pro-fossil fuel candidates, plus, they oppose election reform that ensures fairer elections.

Koch Industries:

  • Donated $119,000 to Republican candidates in Oregon just this election cycle alone
  • Donated $3K to my opponent in this election cycle in direct donations
  • Donated $8K to my opponent total – he came to this election cycle with $73K in his PAC
  • Donated $11+MM nationally to political candidates and PACs this election cycle
  • Spent $6MM in lobbying (nationally) in this election cycle
  • Ranks 22 out of 2,750 large political donors
  • Still actively doing business in Russia
  • Built their fortune on fossil fuels
  • Led efforts to block Election Reform bill

Indirect donations:

  • Oregon Business and Industry Candidate PAC donated $10K to my opponent in this election cycle; Koch Industries donated $20K to Oregon Business and Industry Candidate PAC
  • Donations go two ways – in late 2019 to mid-2020, my opponent expensed $260K (exactly) to Evergreen Oregon PAC, and Koch Industries donated $20K to the same PAC. This PAC is the campaign arm for Oregon House Republicans. This PAC facilitates many ads and TV buys. Evergreen also donated to Promote Oregon Leadership PAC; Promote Oregon Leadership PAC has donated $33K to my opponent in past election cycles
  • Oregon Farm Bureau PAC has donated $3,500 total to my opponent; Koch Industries has donated to same PAC $2K in this election cycle
  • Oregon Forest Industries Council has donated a total of $10,250 to my opponent ($3K in this election cycle); Koch Industries has donated a total of $65K to the same PAC, $5K in this election cycle.
  • The Leadership Fund has donated in cash and in-kind a total of $8K to my opponent this election cycle; Koch Industries has donated $5K to The Leadership Fund in this election cycle, total of $58,500 in all election cycles since 2013.

Koch Industries donations to my opponent this election cycle are $3K in direct donations ($8K including previous election cycles); $20K in indirect cash donations, $20K in indirect in-kind donations – a total of $43,000 this election cycle.
